“Are You a Christian Counselor or a Counselor with a Christian Worldview?”

After a difficult year, Sarah searched online for a “Christian counselor near me.” She loved her faith but didn’t want someone who would just “throw Bible verses” at her or overlook her anxiety as a “spiritual problem.” What she really needed was someone who understood trauma, could help her set boundaries in relationships, and wouldn’t be surprised if she cried during prayer or questioned God. When she found a Licensed Professional Counselor who shared her Christian worldview, she breathed a sigh of relief. Her sessions included evidence-based tools for anxiety and the freedom to talk about her relationship with God. She felt safe, seen, and respected, not sermonized.

Many people search for a Christian counselor when they’re looking for someone who shares their values, someone who will honor their faith journey while helping them navigate anxiety, grief, relationships, trauma, or identity. But it’s important to understand that not all “Christian counselors” are the same, and not all are licensed mental health professionals.

Let’s clarify what sets a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Christian worldview apart from what the term ”Christian counselor” traditionally implies.

What is a ”Christian Counselor”?
The term Christian counselor is broad. It may refer to:

  • A pastoral counselor without formal clinical training
  • A lay mentor in a church
  • A coach offering support based on biblical principles

These roles can be meaningful, but they are not regulated, and they don’t necessarily require a graduate degree, licensure, or clinical supervision.

What is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Christian Worldview?
A licensed mental health professional or counselor has:

  • Earned a master’s or doctoral degree in counseling or a related field
  • Completed extensive clinical training and supervision
  • Passed state and national board exams
  • Continues to uphold ethical and legal standards set by their state board and professional associations

When that counselor also holds a Christian worldview, it means their faith informs their values, character, and view of healing. Still, it does not override their clinical training or professional responsibility.

Why This Distinction Matters
As Licensed Professional Counselors with a Christian worldview, we’re trained to:

  • Use evidence-based practices backed by research
  • Integrate faith and spirituality ethically and respectfully
  • Create space for you to talk about your beliefs, your doubts, and your spiritual life, without pressure or judgment
  • Work with people from all walks of life, including those of different or no faith background

We do not impose our values on guests. Instead, we help you explore your values, faith, and identity within a safe, compassionate, and clinically sound space.

Faith and Clinical Excellence Can Work Together

At Ever Forward Counseling x Neurofeedback, we believe you don’t have to choose between faith and mental health care. You can have both. And if you’re looking for a counselor who shares your faith but is also deeply committed to professional standards, you’re in the right place.

“He Leads Me Beside Still Waters”: Finding Peace in Psalm 23

Even when we know God is good, anxiety can still make our world feel noisy, tight, and overwhelming. As a counselor with a Christian worldview, I meet many guests who trust God  and still wrestle with fear, panic, or racing thoughts. The presence of anxiety doesn’t mean the absence of faith. It simply means you’re
